QUE (The Workhorse)


The most common relative pronoun:
  • El hombre que habla = The man who speaks

  • El libro que leí = The book that I read

  • La casa que compramos = The house that we bought
  • QUIEN (People Only)


    Used after prepositions or commas:
  • Mi hermano, quien vive en Madrid = My brother, who lives in Madrid

  • La persona con quien hablé = The person with whom I spoke
  • CUYO/CUYA (Whose)


    Agrees with the thing possessed:
  • El hombre cuyo coche robó = The man whose car was stolen

  • La mujer cuya hija estudia = The woman whose daughter studies
  • DONDE (Where)


  • La ciudad donde nací = The city where I was born
  • LO QUE (What/That which)


  • No entiendo lo que dices = I don't understand what you're saying
  • Examples

    La persona que habla español es mi amigo
    El libro del que te hablé es bueno
    La ciudad donde vivo es grande
    No sé lo que quieres decir
